DEATH WALKS THE STREETS - July 2010 Updates

3002It's been a long time since we've checked in with an update on the behind-the-curtain workings of the DEATH WALKS machine, so it's time for an overdue round of updates direct from THE SCREAM FACTORY...

1. First up, you may have noticed that DEATH WALKS THE STREETS issues #0 and #1 are now available for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch via the Panelfly App. Full issues are only 99 cents. For full details, check out this posting

2. After taking an extended break to pencil the PREDATORS prequel mini-series for Dark Horse Comics, Guilherme Balbi has returned to the DWTS Team to complete work on issues #2 and #3. He's been working on the artwork for awhile now and has been going back and forth with us on revisions and fine-tuning. Pre-Orders for Issue #2 (the third book) will begin shortly.

3. Print versions of the DWTS books will be returning for sale later this week. We've cracked open the private stash to make available the last copies of the 2008 Wizard World Exclusive, along with a few copies of #0 and #1 that bear the "Fangoria Graphix" label from our short affiliation with the mag. If you want a real collectible, grab 'em while they're up as they were never mass-produced during the Fang-era.

4. Digital Editions for other Apps and Platforms: We're working on deals that will find the entire TSF line making it's way onto other digital devices, along with additional Apps for the iPhone, iPad, etc. Stay tuned on that.

5. New Trailer: A new video trailer will be released to promote DWTS #2. This piece will feature an original song by KIDCRUSHER that is lyrically based within the DEATH WALKS world. It's wicked, sinister, and we love it.

Finally (for this update anyway), the million-dollar question: Will we ever see a DEATH WALKS THE STREETS movie?

We hope so. After the first go from '05-'07 we took some time off. James in particular stepped aside from the movie world for awhile. In the time since passed, every few months someone will contact us inquiring about the "production rights" to the project, but it hasn't felt right to reapproach it until this year. Since January of 2010, three production companies have come calling to discuss the prospects of a DWTS film. While it's too early to divulge anyone involved or even begin to speculate on a timeline, the simple answer is that we still want to make a movie and will do so if everything falls into place. Look for some blog entries/journals to delve further into this in the near future.

Two quick details to toss out to the masses:

  1. Due to the February passing of our friend Justin Mentell, the entire DWTS universe is being re-worked to reflect the real life loss. Both James and Ben feel that it wouldn't be right for another actor to perform a role long-intended for their friend, hence the character of "Billy" will make his final appearance in the upcoming comic book DWTS #2. This causes a ripple through the rest of the comic prequel, the first screenplay, and the screenplay for the sequel in which the character would have been featured heavily.
  2. When the time comes to lock in a deal to produce a DEATH WALKS THE STREETS film, the entire thing will likely be re-cast from top to bottom. Take everything you thought you knew about the previous attempt at a DWTS film and throw it out the window. Fresh starts all around.
