HISTORY:
In the early twentieth century, hard-working men and women from around the globe left behind their homelands in order to find wealth and prosperity in The United States of America.
Upon arrival, many of them faced the harsh reality that the streets were not “paved with gold” as many of them had hoped. Faced with poor living conditions and even poorer wages, many of these noble immigrants suffered and perished in the slums of every major city. By the time of World War II, a man named Francis Savini rose up to unite the common man and take advantage of the path laid down in front of them–A path of opportunity.
Starting with mechanics and factory workers in major industrialized cities, a movement was on the rise—spreading beyond the U.S., and back into the countries from which these men came. The International Brotherhood of Vehicular Mechanics (IBVM) was born.
In the decades that followed, the world has changed, hence so has the IBVM. No longer representing just those in the factories and shops, we represent hard working men and women in almost every vocation including, but not limited to: Foodservice, Hospitality, Waste Management, The Fine Arts, and of course a plethora of Industrial occupations.
With it’s headquarters located in New Marshall, Union Local 666 is proud to carry the torch of the IBVM in a continuing quest to better working conditions for the common man, woman, and their families in the United States and around the World. IBVM currently has local memberships in over 60 countries.
